Studio Policies
1. Payment of Fees: Lessons are grouped into four, three month quarters. Fees can be paid either by the month or quarter, and are due at the first lesson of that month or quarter. A $5.00 per week late fee will be charged on late payments. Please make checks payable to: Jillian Simms.
2. Master Classes: Master classes will be held approximately
every eight weeks. Two classes on different dates, at different times will
be held for students to choose from. The fee for these classes is $15.00
per student. There are no make-ups or credits for these classes.
3. Cancellation Policy: For the benefit of your student, it is very important
that they maintain weekly lessons. If your student is unable to attend their
regular lesson, you must contact me at least two days in advance to reschedule
the lesson or to cancel the lesson in order to receive a credit toward the
next month or quarter. You will only receive credit for one canceled lesson
per quarter. Additional missed lessons must be paid for. You will not be
charged for lessons missed by me, and emergencies will of course be an exception.
If your student takes an extended break, I cannot guarantee that their slot
will be available when they return. You can reserve their time slot by paying
a fee. No lessons will be held on major holidays and some dates surrounding
them, and some holidays may be optional. I will let you know of these dates
in advance.
4. Parents, siblings, family, and friends must wait outside during lessons. It is in the best interest of the student that the lessons are with the teacher only, in order to provide an atmosphere of focus and relieve stress. There will be no exceptions.
5. Students are expected to keep a notebook for their assignments. This notebook is to be dedicated to their piano assignments and must be brought to each lesson. All assignments will be written in this notebook and are expected to be fully completed by the next lesson. Please do not tear out old assignments, we may use them for reference.
6. Practice: Students are expected to follow a regular, daily practice schedule. The amount of practice each day varies between students. A typical beginning to early intermediate student should practice at least 30 minutes per day. An intermediate student should be practicing at least 45 minutes per day. Practice time can be broken up into two smaller sessions instead of one large session. Daily practice really is best. Students should divide their time wisely between assignments. Assignments that are harder should get more time devoted to them, while easier assignments should receive less time per day.
7. Students must have clean hands and short fingernails when they arrive for their lesson. It is impossible to play the piano properly with long fingernails.
8. Students are expected to treat any teacher working with
or for Simms Music Studio with respect. Disrespectful behavior will not
be tolerated. If such behavior persists, the lesson will be ended without
a refund.
